About Trade 61
I'm Colby Hilton, a professional aviator and flight instructor with over two decades of experience in the aviation industry. My journey began in 1999 with training as an airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic, which gave me a strong foundation in the technical side of aviation and a deep respect for the machines we fly. In 2002, I took the next step by enrolling in the Mesa Airlines Pilot Development Program, where I dedicated myself to learning the trade of professional flying. I graduated from the program in 2004. In December 2004, I began a nearly 20-year career with Bell Helicopter as a flightline mechanic. During my time there, I had the opportunity to work on some of the most advanced aircraft in the world, including the V-22 Osprey and the 525 Relentless development program.
In 2020, I became involved with WT Flyers Club, initially serving as an A&P mechanic. After earning my Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate on April 3, 2021, I transitioned into a dual role—continuing to maintain aircraft while also instructing student pilots. This combination of mechanical insight and flight instruction allows me to bring a unique, safety-focused perspective to every lesson. I take pride in mentoring new pilots, helping them develop the confidence and skill to fly safely and proficiently. I also enjoy working with experienced aviators through flight reviews and ongoing training.
For me, flight instruction is about more than just logging hours—it's about serving people and sharing a lifelong passion for aviation. I strive to meet each student where they are, tailoring my approach to their individual goals and learning style. Whether on the ground or in the air, I’m committed to helping others grow into competent, confident pilots who love what they do.

Aspiring Flight Instructors
If you're an aspiring flight instructor, CFI B.O.S.S. is the missing piece the FAA never gave you. I wrote CFI B.O.S.S. because I remember how overwhelming it felt to start flight instructing without a clear roadmap. The FAA certified you to teach—but no one showed you how to turn that into a real, sustainable business. That’s why I created this easy-to-follow eBook to help new CFIs like you skip the guesswork and start strong. While your certificate proves you can teach, building a professional business takes more than lesson plans and logbook entries.
CFI B.O.S.S. is a step-by-step guide designed to help you launch your instruction career with structure, strategy, and confidence. Learn how to establish your brand, set up your business legally, manage scheduling and payments, and attract the right students—all while staying focused on what you love: flying and teaching. Don’t just start instructing—start building a business that serves your values and aviation, not just your logbook hours.

WT Flyers is a non-profit, board run flying club. The club was created to bring pilots, flight instructors, aircraft, and mechanics together to create a safe, fun and friendly environment to fly. By doing this, we are able to keep the costs of flying lower than you will find at a typical FBO. To keep the airplanes in top shape, we have certified mechanics sharing our hangar who work hard to make sure our aircraft are airworthy and online for your enjoyment.
